Number 25 November 2019 - Super-Flash 4.5 Royalty-Free
What does Royalty-Free mean? For Super-Flash, Automa's SCADA/HMI development system, it means acquiring a development system version and then the possibility of creating an unlimited number of applications not subject to paid runtime licences.
IBasically, you save the cost of the SCADA runtime licence for each of the applications implemented. This means, once purchase of the development system has been amortized, a considerable financial value that allows excellent competitive benefit compared to those using other products.
The purchase of a Royalty-Free development licence can be considered as a purchase of instrumental goods, with the relevant amortization possibilities that make the purchase of the product event more convenient.
Other than the absolute financial convenience of the Royalty-Free, proposal, which is one of a kind, there are many technical aspects that make Super-Flash un prodotto speciale rispetto ai prodotti generalmente reperibili sul mercato.
Automa has always had the primary objective of reliability, meaning guaranteeing continuous operation of the applications implemented with Super-Flash. For this reason, the technical choice was made to maintain the system as independent as possible by the host operating system. A choice that has increased the work necessary to introduce new functionalities, but that allows the least possible dependence on issues linked to components supplied by third parties. .

Here are some of the special features deriving from this choice of "independence" from the operating system:
  • Primate reliability
  • Various versions of the system can be simultaneously installed, without conflicts, on the same PC
  • No obligation to upgrade applications
  • No need for virtual machines for projects with different O.S. versions.
  • Applications installed with a COPY and deinstalled with a DEL
  • HMI applications that also work from Pen Disk
  • Runtime engine that occupies few Mbytes
  • Applications that occupy few Mbytes
  • Little sensitivity to Windows upgrades
  • Development system capable of importing 30-year old projects, even DOS projects

Maximum reliability, flexibility, customised training and technical support supplied directly by the product developers. These are some of the values that characterise the Automa offer for Super-Flash, the development system for SCADA/HMI applications.
The product can be downloaded in a Runtime version from the freedownload section of our site.
This is a complete version capable of implementing applications that have a sole limitation of lasting 15 minutes for each runtime session. This allows complete use of the development system and testing of the applications implemented without sustaining any costs. Having developed the applications, the developer will decide whether to purchase a Runtime licence or proceed with purchase of the Royalty-Free development system.
To facilitate learning of the tool, Automa proposes customised training modules provided directly by the product developers.

Number 23 November 2019 - The best Edge? SCADA!
After a few years of "drunkenness" about the massive impact of IoT and Big Data, some things have finally come to a head. This is good because it means the technology has finally started to be really applied.
Initially the proposal, even at industrial level, was to: install this IoT device that collects data (even multiple) and publish it in the cloud on an IoT infrastructure that supports Analytics and Big Data, and ... you're done. That's all!
A few years ago, after filling the cloud with useless and too complex data to correlate and understand what the real reaction times were and the limits of the analysis model set, finally we started talking about Edge Computing, i.e. the need to make the periphery smarter to ensure collection was avoided of unnecessary data and orientate this collection to one or more specific features to be implemented. Also discussing Smart Data.
However, in the industrial field, this Edge Computing functionality can be implemented (or is already implemented) by a software layer that has long been present in most production companies: it is called SCADA/ HMI. It is the peripheral intelligence already consolidated even before IoT theorization.
So, rather than installing new objects and collecting data and signals in parallel that are not contextualized and which already reside in the SCADA/HMI layer, why not upgrade this layer in order to achieve the necessary interconnection with the production MES? In this case, in the face of critical situations, the reaction towards the field is actually immediate, does not depend on the quality/availability of external connections and any information passed to the higher level can already be properly contextualised and related to the objectives of the specific functionalities of the MES level.
The implementation of effective and efficient interconnections between the SCADA/HMI level and the MES requires some specific skills that are often lacking in those who develop SCADA/HMI applications. This is why Automa provides its customers with the necessary skills to successfully carry out integration projects.
For further information on services, linked to interconnection projects, provided by Automa, you are invited to contact our sales staff directly on +39.035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 22 November 2019 - Super-Flash Royalty-Free upgrade promotion
Super-Flash Royalty-Free is a development system for SCADA/HMI applications. It is currently available in 4.5 version which is highly appreciated by developers.
There are however some users who have not been able to avail of all the benefits of this new version of Super-Flash, because they are still using the previous versions, which are still considered sufficient for their application requirements..
However, the more recent versions of Super-Flashare highly concentrated on the productivity of developing and maintaining the applications. Those using these versions reduce almost half the development time of even complex applications compared to older versions.
Industry 4.0, a very popular topic at the moment, is giving a strong boost to interconnection between production control and management systems. Many integration projects between the various levels of information systems will finally take shape..
An upgraded Super-Flash development system allows better grasp of opportunities in the short and medium term, also on the Industry 4.0 push.
To promote upgrading the old Super-Flash Royalty-Free, licences, Automa is running a special promotion:
For orders by 31 December, for all upgrades from the old versions a special discount will be applied of 30%on the current pricelist if an annual upgrade service is simultaneously activated..
Attention: the imminent release of the 4.6 version will make any upgrade to the official version even more costly. It is advisable to upgrade before the new version is released, which is expected by the end of the year. The simultaneous subscription of an annual upgrade service will give you the right to also receive the powerful 4.6 version.
For further information on the promotion, contact our sales staff directly on +39.035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

April 2019
Number 17 April 2019 - Super-Flash Royalty-Free: HMI in Industry 4.0
SCADA/HMI applications are the basis of the digital factory metaphor towards which Industry 4.0 gravitates. It is through these applications that operators can drive machines and plants in production to maximum efficiency..
For these applications Automa proposes Super-Flash a versatile development system that generates compact and reliable HMI applications that work even on limited hardware. The power of MicroC allows developers to go far beyond the simple representation of synoptics animated by values originating in the field, yielding HMI applications that are perfectly interconnected with information systems, with effective and efficient horizontal and vertical integrations
With MicroC and the support of a solid Event Management with secure queues on disk, Edge computing features are also easily implemented, allowing users to transfer to higher levels the previously processed highly meaningful plant and machine data, already directed at typical MES features (OEE, production, traceability, maintenance, etc.), thus avoiding unnecessary clogging of higher level databases with data of little use.
However Super-Flash also has some specific features that offer developers and end users many practical advantages:
  • Record-breaking reliability
  • All versions can be installed simultaneously, without conflicts, on the same PC
  • No constraints in updating applications
  • No need for virtual machines for projects with different S.O. versions
  • Applications are installed with COPY and uninstalled with DEL
  • HMI applications also work on Pen Disks
  • The Runtime Engine occupies just a few MBytes
  • Applications take up only a few MBytes
  • Not very sensitive to Windows updates
  • The development system can import 30 year old projects, even DOS projects.
To encourage the free development of HMI applications, even those that are especially cost sensitive, Automa proposes its own SCADA Super-Flash in Royalty-Free mode: an extraordinary commercial formula that offers an exceptional opportunity to developers. Once the purchase value of the development system has been amortised, the cost of each HMI benefits from the fact that there are no Runtime licence costs: a huge competitive advantage.
Reliability, flexibility, customised training and top-level technical assistance, delivered directly by the product developers.
These are just some of the values of Super-Flash, Automa's development system for SCAD/HMI applications.
For more information on Super-Flash Royalty-Free Free please contact our sales staff directly on +39 035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 15 April 2019 - TPX-DB: publication of data on local remote DBs
TPX-DB software exports recorded trend data from multiple Super-Flash applications, by publishing them (via ODBC-OLEDB) on a single Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL database.
TPX-DB is a stand-alone application that reads trend data produced by multiple Super-Flash applications, and publishes them on a Database, then subsequently in an advanced storage device already directly interfaced with the company's information systems.
The application manages the continuous publication on the Database of the data stored in the trend archive of each configured application; the publication of an application's data is performed with a configurable time interval.
No modification of Super-Flash applications that record trends is required, as TPX-DB does its job entirely independently.
TPX-DB can be installed on the same machine running one of the trending applications, or on another machine on the network. Being able to manage access to network paths, its physical positioning can be decided on the basis of its architecture specifications and performance of available machines. The Database too can be located anywhere in the network or cloud, as long as it is accessible. This translates into considerable flexibility in using the TPX-DB.
TPX-DB is a valuable tool for your Industry 4.0 interconnection projects.
For more information on TPX-DB, please contact our sales staff directly on +39 035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 14 April 2019 - AirGriDaCo 2.1: wireless low cost interconnection for Industry 4.0
The interconnection of production machinery, the primary underlying theme in Industry 4.0 projects, can be hindered by a lack of documentation in communication protocols. Sometimes all that's required is to collect a few signals related to operator commands or operating states: the implementation of a PLC-based system can prove to be too expensive. In some cases, the machines to be connected are dated and have no communication interfaces. Often, the biggest burden is the laying of the network cable to connect the signals/controls to be interfaced.
In all these cases, the ideal solution is WD+AirGriDaCo:a low cost wireless system that is easy and quick to install, based on standard technology, widely configurable and customizable.
AirGriDaCo is a software created by Automa to support the distribution, exclusively in Italy, of PATLITE WD wireless system; an innovative solution capable of transforming a simple light signalling tower into a low-cost source of useful data for managing machine and plant efficiency.
Here are some examples of its use
  • Efficiency (OEE) on Machinery or Lines
  • Manual Assembly Stations
  • Managing Technical Calls
  • Managing Mobile Equipment

With AirGriDaCo it's easy to set up Andon information panels to support production and implement escalation procedures for production anomalies.
AirGriDaCo It is easy to install and very easy to configure. Allows users to assign a name to each tower, light, or the status of each light. This renders the events log self-explanatory. The log can be published directly on a company Database or exported to CSV files compatible with Excel.
AirGriDaCo is available in different sizes and can be the starting point for customised versions that Automa is able to produce according to the specific needs of each customer.
For more information on AirGriDaCo products, or for a free presentation please contact our sales staff directly on +39 035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 13 April 2019 - SE5001: Ethernet-serial converter for interconnection
SE5001 is a serial Ethernet server that interconnects devices equipped solely with an RS232/RS422/RS485 serial interface.
This allows old peripherals to be connected to the information system even when revamping machines and plants.
SE5001 can be configured via a browser and, by using VirtualCom, these devices can be inserted - barring in special cases - without the need to modify the existing software.
Available in standard, optoisolated or outdoor IP67 versions, the ATOP converters are reliable, high performance, easy to configure and low cost. Automa has tested its functionality with critical communication protocols such as, for example, the programming port of old Siemens S5 PLCs and the PPI port of the S7-200s.
For these products, Automa offers full technical support to assist customers in their initial usage.
Visit the hardware section on our website to consult the list of ATOP products distributed by Automa and download the related technical documentation.

Number 12 April 2019 - LA6-PoE: Ethernet-PoE signalling tower with ModBus TCP
PATLITE announces a new light and acoustic signal tower (LA6-PoE) that can be connected in Ethernet and controlled directly in TCP/IP. The tower supports PoE (Power Over Ethernet) and can be powered directly from the Ethernet cable. It supports the ModBus TCP protocol and can easily be controlled by clients implementing this communication standard.
The LA6-PoE lights are RGB, so even runtime colours can freely be set up. The ability to create scenarios with frames that can alternate in time allows users to define very innovative uses for this tower. The buzzer has 11 different sounds and can be inserted into scenarios by configuring the sound level and intermittence.
This tower supports a variety of applications, and thanks to the PoE, can be placed anywhere on the Ethernet network without the need for a specific power supply.
It can be used both to propagate the status of other signalling towers and to effectively support the escalation procedures of alarm events.
The LA6-PoE tower is also supported by AirGriDaCo, the software for wireless data collection from light columns developed by Automa for the PATLITE WD system.
Can be piloted directly from:
  • Super-Flash applications with a SFModBus TCP driver
  • MyKeyBus, the APP for Android developed by Automa for interaction with devices
  • Libreria C+++ ModBus TCP

Automa also offers a specific training module for the rapid and efficient acquisition of configuration and communication capabilities for the LA6-PoE.
For more information on the LA6-PoE tower, MyKeyBus and ModBus libraries, please contact our sales staff directly on +39 035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 11 April 2019 - Obsolete Applicom cards
Some Applicom cards for industrial communication have been part of an obsolescence programme for some time now. These include the PCU1500S7, PCU1500PFB and PCU2000ETH.
The Applicom cards have always proven to be reliable and high-performing. Automa offered them to its customers 25 years ago. At the time, they were almost the only solution for efficient communication with some PLCs.
For years, however, the use of an internal card for communication with PLCs is no longer advisable. Compatibility problems with internal buses and operating systems are too binding. The need to "open" the PC for installation is a risk and an extra cost. With the appearance of PanelPCs, there is often no possibility of even an expansion slot to house the card.
SCADA/HMI workstations should always have only Ethernet as the physical communication interface. In this way the application can easily run on any PC, making it extremely easy to replace in case of failure.
Please contact us to assess any need for replacement of faulty cards.

Alternative 1

For MPI/Profibus communication with S7 PLCs, we recommend Hilscher gateways as an alternative.
The NL 50-MPI and NT 50-MPI devices are reliable, high-performing, inexpensive, Step7 compatible and capable of multiple communication sessions.
Automa supplies these devices with an embedded SFNetLink Runtime driver for Super-Flash applications.
For Super-Flash applications, the change to switch from the Applicom card driver to the SFNetLink driver is quite simple. Automa offers support for the integration of the new driver.

Alternative 2

The replacement of an internal card could also be the opportunity, also in view of Industry 4.0, to consider a direct Ethernet connection with S7 PLCs.
If the Ethernet connection is available on the PLC, Automa proposes its own communication driver:
Our Ethernet communication drivers for Siemens PLCs are available in the Smart version, limited to a single PLC, and Full version which addresses up to 100 PLCs.
For more information on obsolete Applicom cards and on possible alternatives, please contact our sales staff directly on +39 035.32.33.911 or via e-mail at sales@automa.it.

Number 5 February 2019 - TP - Trend Publisher
TP (Trend Publisher) software exports trend data recorded by a Super-Flash, application by publishing them on a local or remote database. Use the SmartDB tool for accessing the Database.
TP communicates with your Super-Flash, tramite il protocollo SF-SF (su canale TCP/IP), application via the SF-SF protocol (on TCP/IP channel), to receive the publishing mission. Once a mission has been received, it is run in complete autonomy. To know the Super-Flash variables to export it uses an ASCII file containing the list of variables to be managed.
Trend Publisher can be installed on the same machine as the trending application, or on another machine on the network. Being able to access the network paths, and communicating in TCP/IP, its physical positioning can be decided on the basis of the network architecture and the performance of the available machines. The Database can also be located anywhere in the network as long as it is accessible. This means considerable flexibility in the use of TP
TP has its own HMI interface to allow you to manually define the publishing mission. It manages a queue of missions to be executed and provides the outcome of completed missions.
With the publication of mission trends it is possible to associate other data, for example the machining code or work order, so that the subsequent analysis is even more effective.
TP is a valuable tool for your Industry 4.0 interconnection projects.
